    1. This was a decent read, taking in the details of the events of 9 II involving United Flight 93, whose brave passengers tackled the terrorists in a heroic attempt to spoil the plans for crashing it back in Washington I ve always found that reading about or watching the docs about survivor or victim stories is very emotional for me These were ordinary people who saved the lives of others and deserve to be called heroes.A good book for anyone wanting to read about Flight 93.

    2. Does a great job of recognizing each individual passenger on the doomed United 93, giving a mini biography and drawing connections where others may have overlooked I don t feel I learned too much about what actually happened on the flight itself the basics are known, but much still remains conjecture however, it s an important read in showing that these people, like everyone else who died on September 11, were just ordinary citizens thrust into an unimaginable situation They choose to act based [...]

    3. Incredibly compelling, Among the Heroes United Fight 93 and the Passengers and Crew Who Fought Back tells the story of the first battle in the war on terror The book recounts the fateful events of September 11, 2001, when a group of passengers aboard a commercial airliner fought back against a group of Middle Eastern hijackers who were part of an organized multipronged attack on America However, contrary to popular opinion, author Jere Longman contends that the passengers weren t ordinary, every [...]

    4. September 11 is a date etched into almost everybody s memory and although a lot of the attention is quite rightly focussed on the destruction of the World Trade Centre and the attack on the Pentagon, Flight 93 also played a major part in the day s drama.Hijacked by four, or some think three, terrorists the plane was flown off route, probably intended to fly to Washington to attack the White House The valiant passengers and crew had other ideas and fought back as best they could with the result t [...]

    5. On September 11, 2001, there was one plane that didn t reach its target This is due to the actions of the passengers and crew on board who, in speaking with their family members and discovering what was happening in New York and Washington, realized that they were very likely going to die and decided to work together to change the outcome We did lose 40 good people on that flight, but their deaths were not in vain Jere Longman tells us about the people who were on United 93 We read about their h [...]

    6. Most of the books about 9 11 focus primarily on the destruction of the World Trade Center towers with a nod to the Pentagon and United 93 which crashed into a field outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania This book focuses on United 93 and gives us some insight into the lives and characters of each of the passengers as well as providing a timeline of the events leading up to the crash It is a book well worth reading if for no other reason than I think we sometimes tend to think of the casualties of th [...]

    7. I worked for a family that had a member on this flight and a part of the book is about her, so I was excited to read it because I felt like I had some what of a personal connection The beginning of the book was interesting but after that I found my skipping through most of the book and only reading a few sentences I was very disappointed in this book Others may read it and cry from start to finish.

    8. I m not going to rate this book bc I know someone whose husband died on Flight 93 and I know someone who lost his life to the flames or smoke it doesn t matter which it was, dead is still dead inside Tower 1, the first building attacked.I ve never been that thrilled that people decided to set aside two groups of those who died, rescue workers and those attached to Flight 93, and called them heroic while implying through what they didn t say that nobody else who was killed was a hero that day Tha [...]

    9. Among the Heroes, is the most interesting book that I have ever read It is written in a way that I have never seen before The book is about the passengers on United Flight 93, during the September 9, 2000, Terrorist attacks The book tells the story of the all of the passengers, what they did in there lives before the flight, while at the same time telling the reader what was happening on the flight So the book is constantly transitioning from the setting being on the plane, to the setting being [...]

    10. It is a great read for people who want to know about the passengers lives and why they were traveling that day What I also liked about it is that it still felt like it was a narrative Longman told the story of Flight 93 intermittently between short but well written biographies of each passenger If you want to know he did also talk about the life of Ziad Jarrah to put into perspective his own family s reaction to his actions I am an intern at Flight 93 National Memorial and this was the book the [...]

I ve known the bare facts for some time, but it was good to read an in depth look at the people and the events, or what little is known about them. For all the times I ve been searched and delayed and asked intrusive questions by the TSA, I ve endured it The whole American security mechanism to keep air travellers safe is expensive, intrusive, resource intensive and useless.Yup, that s right It took these passengers half an hour to defeat al Qaeda s plan to use missiles to attack important US ins [...]

    13. I read this to honor the tenth anniversary this year and in some hope of understanding what happened on Flight 93 before it crashed into the Pennsylvania countryside I m convinced that Longman did as good a job as possible reconstructing what happened based on the evidence, and probably no one will ever know the full story Longman has interviewed family members, law enforcement, and aviation officials listened to phone logs, and pieced together a narrative that starts at the airport with crew ch [...]

    14. Flying High A touching novel about the September 11th attacks and Flight 93, Among the Heroes, by Jere Longman, informs the public about the passengers, crew, terrorists, and their life stories leading to that disastrous day Up until now, I had no idea that there was a fourth flight in the September 11th attacks Many government officials believe that Flight 93 s intended target was the White House, but because the passengers and crew valiantly resisted against the terrorists, the plane never rea [...]

    15. On the evening of September 14th, as the sun set over the flag draped county courthouse in Somerset, Pennsylvania, fifteen hundred mourners gathered together as Governor Tom Ridge presided over a memorial to the passengers and crew of United Flight 93 In the hushed twilight, amid the toiling of bells, a candle was lit for each victim, and the flames were used to light smaller candles held by townspeople attending the service The hijackers had failed in their mission, Ridge said They had not dest [...]

On Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, two commercial planes struck the World Trade Center towers in New York City, and another commercial airline struck the Pentagon in Washington, D.C United Flight 93 was aiming for another destination Perhaps the Capitol Building The White House The passengers learned of the World Trade Center crashes when they phoned their loved ones and friends using cell and in flight phones to tell them of the hijacking of their flight by terrorists This book is well res [...]

    17. So awhile back I read 102 Minutes, about the people who were in the Twin Towers on 9 11 this book is about the people on United 93 who very likely fought back during the hijacking of their plane. This is a remarkable book, but, strangely, less because of the narrative of the hijacking and crash than for the stories of the random or maybe not so random people on the plane It turns out that these hijackers had acquired perhaps exactly the wrong group of people The passengers included a number of pe [...]

    18. I was quite disappointed with this book The book details the background and lives of the passengers on Flight 93 and has very little of the actual flight itself Information is repeated at various stages throughout the book I only need to be given information once, not a number of times throughout a book The photos in the book are poor quality black and white photos Good quality colour photos would have had a greater impact and so would have been a huge improvement There are no diagrams or maps i [...]

    19. A book on Flight 93 that went down in Pennsylvania, on September 11th It was mainly interviews and information gathered from family and friends about the people on the plane before and during the flight The author covered the hijackers as well which was kind of interesting to learn about where they came from The way the book was written was very good, but with all the names and stories, it got kind of confusing at a point. And I have a question Why are all the books, tv shows and movies always ab [...]

    20. With interviews conducted relatively soon after September 11, 2001, Jere Longman was one of the first to bring the individual stories of the passengers and crew of United Flight 93 to light Mr Longman should be praised for his sensitivity to the families that he interviewed while at the same time understanding the importance of telling the story of these 40 extraordinary people What makes this book such an important record of Sept 11th is that it was written so shortly thereafter It provides a p [...]

This is the account of the passengers of United Flight 93, as told by their loved ones Quite a few of them were slated to be on a later flight, but had arrived at the airport early and managed to switch to this flight While we may never know what exactly went on in the plane and how things really played out, it remains that the passengers and crew on that plane were heroes This was quite a difficult read as there are accounts of final phone calls made and goodbyes said Many times, I could not re [...]

    23. This book was written after the author conducted interviews with the family members of everyone including the hijackers aboard United Flight 93 on September 11, 2001 He also combed the investigative records related to the flight The result is a very personal and touching portrait of the passengers and crew who valiantly stood up to their hijackers in an attempt to thwart hijacking We have all read many accounts of this tragedy, but Longman gives the reader a very personal experience which makes [...]

    26. One of the best books I ve read regarding the September 11th Terrorist Attacks Longman goes in depth, talking to the family and friends of nearly all the passengers on United Flight 93 the only hijacked plane to not hit its target that day The recreation of the day s events based on phone calls, voice mails, and personal interviews, is harrowing and gut wrenching Readers will silently cheer for the passengers and crew, all the while knowing the end result is horrific A must read
