    4. Let me start by saying that The Shattered Islands is not a book that would normally be on my reading list.Karpov Kinrade is,however, on my list of go to authors I decided to take a chance when offered an ARC.I m so pleased that I made that choice.I was gripped from the start by both the narrative and the setting Such imagination has gone into the creation of this world and although alien to me, I believe in it.The same can be said of the characters With a few well chosen words they come to life [...]

Wow In the first novella length installment of their new epic fantasy series, Karpov Kinrade has done it again Done what What they do every single time they put words down create an incredible story filled with characters that I am instantly loving in a book I can t put down until I finish And then, I am sad that I have finished, especially when I can t immediately move on to the next book in a series Kinrade has imagined a world unlike any I ve read before This novella had it all mystery, fanta [...]

    6. I loved it It has a feel of like Science Fiction or the Fantasies of yesteryear like a cross of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Andre Norton, and L.E Modesitt, Jr The writing style also reminded me of other of my favorite authors from my younger years This is a good start to a series I believe I will enjoy, and am looking forward to the next one I really cannot tell much of the plot without giving away too much.Large, occasionally flying whales as transport Spearing Very nasty predators Three major Famili [...]

    10. In full disclosure, I won this in a giveaway but that had no influence on my review I m terrible at paying attention to the word counts on these giveaway and missed this was an eighty six page novella but that s fine It was a very good study in world building. And that s what shines in this novella, even so than the characters, the world building The setting is the best drawn character in the novella Sev, the point of view character, has come onboard a ship and is not quite what the crew thinks [...]

    12. This is an intriguing little book Stuff I liked The world in which the story is set is fascinating, and feels true to itself I look forward to exploring it further in future books I found many of the characters interesting and likeable, especially the captain of the first ship I hope he ll come back in future books. The hero is loyal, and sometimes kind Though I would have preferred always kind The storyline is good There s plenty of subtext I.e the writers do not assume you are an idiot They giv [...]

    13. The Rakam is the suspenseful first book about a mysterious seafarer in a world very different from our own In this world, ships are set atop whales called kiasheen that can fly short distances, rakam are vicious sea monsters with sword like noses, and a newfound friend may very well be an enemy. The story was quick paced and the amount of content was appropriate for the length.I would recommend The Rakam to fans of fantasy novels and fans of epics such as Homer s Odyssey Due to some scenes with g [...]

    14. This is a Short Novella and is set in an awe inspiring and incredibly creative, descriptive fantasy world written by one of my favourite set of authors Karpov Kinrade The Shattered Islands Part 1 The Rakam is unlike anything I have read before, I would say it is quite a dark YA novel that is very unusual in its overall outcome but is strangely addictive although short I would definitely say that I personally think Karpov Kinrade have a firm basis there for the opening to another successful serie [...]

    18. I received this book from one of the giveaways, and was very surprised to see how small it is Only 77 pages I haven t read any thing else by Karpov Kinrade, but I looked them up on this site and noticed that the Nightfall Chronicles are listed with 200 pages in the first book and 548 pages in the second, so perhaps this is the way they write.I loved the world setting and the pace of the story was great, but I was disappointed that the world was not expanded on The world was intriguing, but there [...]

    19. As always, with dynamic writing duo Karpov Kinrade, we are introduced to a world that is different from what we re used to Sometimes the differences are small, but other times they are immense This is one of those stories We are drawn into a foreign world, with sometimes difficult names to remember, but those names belong to memorable characters As with all of their characters, we learn to care about their fate and their well being It s one of the things that I can always count on from Karpov Ki [...]

While this may not be everybody s cup of tea because, let s face it, not everyone likes every story they ve ever read, I thoroughly enjoyed it.This is a short read that continues on in the next part It is well worth your time to give it a try You get enough of the background of the characters and story to follow along smoothly and makes you want to read on.This is not Karpov Kinrade s usual type of story For that, I applaud you for thinking outside the box and trying something new to you You did [...]

Disclosure I won a copy of this novella in a giveaway. The strength of this novella novellette is in the world building, which is well done I found the world fascinating and wanted to learn about it There is some lovely imagery in the story too I didn t connect with the protagonist as much as I like to in a story he seemed like a character from mythology, too strong and smart I think he needed a little flaw but this is the beginning of a series so maybe his character will become developed as th [...]

    26. I won a copy of this book in a giveaway. The rave reviews I had read prepared me for a book that would blow me away Although I liked it, I never really got into it that much The story was incredibly imaginative and the images were impressive but the characters and dialogue seemed a little flat This short novella is really just an introduction to a elaborate story and I suspect, that as is revealed, the tension and suspense will pick up I will be looking for the next installment.
