    About M.L. John

    1. The first novel M L John ever read was Frank L Baum s The Wizard of Oz, and she has had a love of fantasy ever since As soon as her handwriting was good enough to write full sentences, she started writing stories about beautiful princesses who spent their time rescuing princes and slaying dragons Very little has changed about her writing style since that time, with the possible exception of her handwriting She lives in Colorado with her true love, their three children, an obnoxious baby brother who still won t let her change the television channel, and a small menagerie of yippy little dogs These days, she spends most of her time explaining different mythologies to her kids until their little eyes glaze and roll back in their heads Her first novel, Lady of the Veils, was published in ebook format by Gypsy Shadow Publishing in Dec 2010 She has contributed to the anthology Powers, which was voted top 10 best of 2010 by PE, as well as winning Elfwood s coveted Mod s Choice award for her short story Heaven Her short story The Holes in Her Shoes will be included in the magazine Aoife s Kiss in March 2012.

    1. When I started this book, it felt like a YA fantasy Karen was a typical teen with angst and a crush on a good looking fae who was out of her reach As half fey, Karen and Beri would never be able to have a romantic relationship because of who they both were So, the author totally set this up as a typical teen YA, coming of age type story Then Karen is taken by the Unseelie court and the book came alive for me Maybe I m just some sicko who enjoys the pain of fictional characters, but it wasn t unt [...]

    2. I really wasn t sure I would like this book as the synopsis although it sounded intriguing but I wondered if it might follow the same route as others in the genre and become a bit predictable As usual I was wrong Karen is a typical teenager and of course her emotions are high with school, life and then there is also the love interest of Beri He dies at the local YMCA where Karen works she starts learning about the Fae world Then if all this wasn t enough, her brother goes missing From then on y [...]

    5. We begin in a most unlikely location, the local YMCA, where a young water Fey has just arrived, or perhaps it d be better said has just been delivered as he is dead Shocking certainly but even so when you consider this the Fey are IMMORTAL How can this be What darkness could have possibly succeeded in such a monstrous act A wizard, or accurately a Dryad, comes bearing the newse Ogres are in Avalon, in the palace we are conquered High King Thael Quintinar and the High Queen, royal defenders of [...]

Be prepared for one hell of a ride, as you go from one world and into the next, on a whirlwind trip to battle the immortal Watch as the world that our heroine knew before is pulled out from under her, forcing her to rebuild her very being into the woman she is destined to be.I m a lover of Fantasy, Adventure, Romance and Young Adult books, and this book gives the reader all of those things, in a fast paced roller coaster that leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

This book was wonderful It was a bit of a slow start with the teen romance, but it kept me interested even still I love the mixture of faiere and earth, it brings a new twist to everything I like how the main character grows in the story, and the problems that she face By time I got about half way through the book I didn t want to put it down, and stayed up until 2am to finish it I will definitly be reading some other stories by M.L John in the future.

    11. Lady of the Veils is dark, and older, frankly not really urban fantasy at all since the mortal world is kind of post apocalyptic and doesn t come into play all that much Which I like I adore the description of the Unseelie world It was extremely spooky and fun to read Fun characters, fast moving plot, and a satisfying ending.

Knocked my socks off Great characters to love and lose, neat worldbuilding Fun, tragedy, and well explained badassery from the lead character an excellent read Some parents may object for their younger teens Loads of well written, exciting action tons of effective character drama I recommend to fans of The Dresden Files, Francesca Lia Block, and of the Fae in all their marvelous forms.

    17. Karen MacGregor s mother was exiled from Summerland, even though she was a Seelie princess and knight So, Karen grew up outside of the land of Faerie except on vacations She speaks English and Faerie, and spends her time with her friends, classes, and working at the YMCA.But the Ogres have crashed the palace and the King and his family have been executed On top of all of that, Karen s brother Julien was supposedly shot down in the line of duty during his flight, but Karen is hoping since the war [...]

    18. In Lady of the Veils, M L John imagines a very alternate present, one in which the veil between the universe we know and that inhabited inhabited by fairies and other fey creatures has been torn Now the border between worlds is a curtain of light that runs along the California coast Residents of either realm can pass, although not freely The US isn t taking any chances Their border is heavily armed Now, Ogres have defeated the fairy kingdom and executed its rulers Karen, the teenage daughter of [...]
