    1. I came across the first book in this series Asterix the Gaul on Guardians 1000 books to read before you die list, liked it enough to give this, the second book a try I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, not just of the writing but also the graphic drawings Goscinny wrote the first book around 1960, and even though he died in 1977, the series continues with the 37th edition published in 2017.

    2. Asterix busts open a sickle smuggling racket15 April 2012 Well, it turns out that the second Asterix book is actually really entertaining It is a little difficult to compare them to Tintin though, especially since the first Tintin books appeared in the 1930s while it was not until the 1960s that the Asterix books began to appear However, while it took a few albums for Herge to begin to set Tintin on the path that he was going to go, it appears that Asterix reached that position pretty quickly Ho [...]

    12. Boring, repetitive Not funny, not entertaining at all In this second adventure, Asterix and Obelix go out to find their village druid Getafix Get A Fix a new golden sickle as the druid breaks his old one and without the golden sickle the druid can t make the magic potion that gives Asterix superhuman strength During the adventure, Asterix and Obelix kept coming across the same Roman legionaries who arrested them again and again to bring them before the Roman prefect The prefect is too liberal an [...]

    13. Second comic book in the series so, I m going in a wrong order.Interesting facts that I found Cacofonix is the teacher of the village Cacofonix hasn t given his usual tree spot he is tied in a moonlit room during the feast which is visible through its doorway Even in ancient times Paris is overcrowded with traffic.Metallurgix, the sickle maker cousin to Obelix, is facially identical to Obelix.Asterix Obelix keep getting arrested by the same patrol The tour guide recommends a night in the Mola Ru [...]

Getafix breaks his golden sickle just before the annual druid s conference Asterix and Obelix offer to go to Lutetia to buy him another one so that he could cut the mistletoe properly for his potions Once they reach Lutetia, they discover a gang of sickle smugglers operating a black market Mayhem ensues as our intrepid Gauls take on bandits, wolves, Romans and black marketeers Favourite joke Amphora neck in Lutetia referring to traffic bottlenecks

    15. The plot settles in Paris Lutetia with the dynamic duo on a mission for a new sickle to the village s druid Obviously, it turns out to be troublesome than just some simple shopping The bored and lazy prefect is one of the interesting characters, and the story is fun although not hilarious However, I always find Obelix s compulsive lust for violence somewhat morally questionable.

When the first comic left Obelix a bit too much out of the story in my opinion , this comic made up for it.Asterix and Obelix must travel to Lutetia for Panoramix It is fun too see them leave their little village already in the second volume This way, the writer can show us that his series isn t meant to stay in one place only.In this volume, they show us lots of differences between a big city and a small town. Some features we still experience today, are shown in a very familiar way.The traffic, [...]

Only ever so slightly better than the 1st episode, The Golden Sickle had slightly plot and slightly better artwork, but still the jokes, the humour, the whole scenario really is quite woeful If I had read these when I was a kid, I would ve been only very mildly entertained Call me a humourless pisse froid if you like, but as an adult, this was quite painful to read 2.75 5
