City of Sheffield Saints travelled to Derby Trailblazers on Sunday for their last league fixture of the 2009-10 season, having already secured second place, they quickly established a lead going up 28 – 15 at the end of the first period, nine coming from three pointers. Derby managed 16 – to Saints 13 in the second quarter, the visitors up by 10 at the half. Saints continued to score freely, making runs of 6, 8 and 12, and the home team only making an 11 – 3 run in the final 3 minutes. Saints scored 7 threes ( 4 for Ellmer and 3 for Hackett) and coach Garnet Gayle was able to give all his bench plenty of court time. Saints came away with a comfortable 76 – 63 win. Gayle's playing time in the second half was curtailed with a cut above his eye.
Saints have home advantage in the play offs next weekend, with a probable game v Oxford Brooks on Saturday 20th at 4.00 @ All Saints – subject to England Basketball confirmation.
